The
vineyards and Winery are located at the mouth of Umia’s River
(Cambados) close to the ArousaRia, on the edge of Umia’s
inter-tide complex which is an area of special ornithological wealth.
At low tide it is a delight to observe birds whose Habitat is the coast
in winter when many hibernating species honor us with their visit. It
is frequent to observe solitary herons, egrets, spoonbills, geese,
sandpipers, sharp-tailed sandpiper, cormorants, etc. It would be
endless to make a description of the ornithological wealth. I invite
you to know them directly.
Bodegas Nanclaresis conscious of the great richness natural heritage
that surrounds us and also we are fully aware of the environmental
possible negative effects from our performance as farmers.
Therefore, as a basic
action premise, we have adopted integrated production principles, using
methods respecting the environment and with the ultimate goal to leave
to our children a rich natural heritage in every aspect: agricultural
richness, biodiversity, natural balance,...
Umia inter-tide complex is an area between La Lanzada isthmus and the mouth of Umia’s River in Cambados.
The natural shelter offering its breathy coast, shallow waters and the
large amount of sediment leaves for Umia’s River and other
streams that flow into it, convert this cove in a place of
extraordinary biological wealth.
Its marine vegetation: algae, underwater plants as the salicornia and
the seba, the mouth rivers reed beds, its shallow and calm waters, make
a very special habitat for the breeding and development of a large
marine fauna.
More than 200 species of birds, especially aquatic as grey herons,
great white egrets, spoonbills, geese, sharp-tailed sandpipers, common
sandpiper,, cormorants, etc., reside either temporarily or permanently
in this cove and its banks.
There are two types of protection:
-International Importance Wetland (RAMSAR Convention)
-Birds Special Protection Area.
To enjoy this natural space there is a Visitors Center, viewpoints and
ornithological observatories, as well as five self-guided hiking
routes.
